Favorite Game of All Time

Hi, hi! Welcome to day 30 of the video game challenge! This is the last one! Today’s challenge is ‘favorite game of all time’.

Okay. So, my favorite game of all time, I’ve written a review of as well as mentioned it quite a few times throughout this challenge and that’s Chrono Trigger, so I’ll talk about the other 4 in my top 5 list.

These are in no particular order. I have a very difficult time ranking my favorite things in a way that would state that I prefer one more than the other, especially with games. If they are different genres I’m going to enjoy them in different ways.

One of them would be Harvest Moon 64, developed by Victor Interactive software and published by Natsume, which I’ve also mentioned a couple of times in this challenge on days 5 and and 13. I first played this game when my aunt let us borrow her Nintendo 64 because my cousins were grounded for some reason or another. I fell in love with it immediately. It was so simple to play, the music was great, and it was the first simulation type game that I had ever played so I was amazed at being able to really make choices that would affect the game.

Another would be SoulCalibur developed by Project Soul and published by Bandai Namco Games. I enjoyed II and III equally. I really enjoyed II overall and the Chronicles of the Sword mode in III. The Chronicles of the Sword mode is a one player mode in which the player makes a custom character and then the player will have troops that fight the enemies and attempt to take over their strongholds. I really enjoyed these games because I like to sit down and play a good fighting game once in awhile.

After that I would say The Lost Vikings for SNES. The Lost Vikings was developed by Silicon & Synapse which is now Blizzard Entertainment and published by Interplay Entertainment in 1992 and Blizzard Entertainment for the Game Boy Advance in 2003. This is a puzzle-platformer game, and in all honesty, it’s completely silly but it’s also a bit challenging until you get used to it. You start off as 3 vikings that are kidnapped by an emperor of an alien empire for a zoo. I had a lot of fun with this one because of how crazy and absurd the story is.

You control 3 different characters, one at a time but each one has a special ability. Erik can run fast enough to break walls with his helmet and jump, Baleog uses a sword and bow which can be helpful when a switch needs to be hit from a distance, and Olaf uses a shield that can block projectiles and the shield can also be used to glide or for Erik to step onto to reach higher areas.

Finally, Parasite Eve. Parasite Eve was developed by Square for the PS1. It is an action-rpg survival horror game. It is a sequel of the book Parasite Eve by Hideaki Sena and has 2 sequels, Parasite Eve II and The Third Birthday.

Aya Brea Source

Aya Brea is a police officer in New York City. While she is attending an opera everyone in attendance spontaneously combusts except for Aya and one actress. When confronted, the actress explains that Aya has mitochondria that needs more time to develop. After the actress runs off, Aya chases her. The actress then turns into a monster and escapes. Aya must defeat this monster before it creates an ultimate being that will destroy humankind. This one was fascinating to play because the story was complex and scientific which I haven’t seen in many games, and man was that final boss a insane!

Well, that’s it! That’s the end of my video game challenge! I hope you enjoyed it. I plan to play many more games this year and may do a different video game challenge in the future! A Game I Thought I’d Dislike but Wound Up Loving

Hi, hi! Welcome to day 29 of the video game challenge! Today’s challenge is ‘a game I thought I would dislike but wound up loving’.

**This post may contain affiliate links. You can find the disclosure policy here.**

This one was a pretty easy one for me, LittleBigPlanet! LittleBigPlanet is a puzzle platformer that was created by Media Molecule and published by Sony Computer Entertainment.

When I first saw this game, I thought it looked like the dumbest game I had ever seen. I even tried it and just couldn’t get into it (I played co-op the first time). I tried it by myself a few years later and really got into it. I had so much fun creating my own sackperson and playing through the unique levels. I’ll admit, I probably spent too much time making my sackperson make silly faces and moving the arms so it would look like she was dancing.

I really enjoyed the first and second games. I haven’t really sat down to play the third, sadly.  However, they are super fun games for all ages. My 3 year old loves to play LBP and LBP Karting.

What is a game you thought you would hate and wound up enjoying? Let me know here or on facebook!

Favorite Game Developer

Hi, hi! Welcome to day 28 of the video game challenge! Today’s challenge is ‘favorite game developer’.

I’m going to have to be somewhat mainstream here and say Nintendo. There are so many fantastic developers out there and so many amazing games out there but Nintendo is one of those that is a sort of family company.

Some of my favorite games developed by Nintendo include: Super Mario Bros. 2, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Splatoon.

It sounds really weird but Super Mario Bros. 2 has always been one of my favorite Mario games. I think it’s the fun music. (‐^▽^‐)I first played this one on the SNES but I own it for NES, SNES and Wii now.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is my favorite Legend of Zelda game. It was also the first game that I played in the series.

Now, Splatoon was one that I was hesitant to pick up. I absolutely hate anything that comes out of the water. I think they are all creepy and ugly and flat out horrifying. I was finally convinced to buy it so that I could play it with a few of my friends.

Aren’t they adorable!? Source

I never thought sea creatures could be made adorable! The Squid Sisters are now some of my favorite characters (I need those amiibo now please!!!).

Who is your favorite game developer? Leave me a comment here or on facebook and let me know! ^_^

Most Epic Videogame Scene Ever

Hi, hi! Welcome to day 27 of the video game challenge! Today’s challenge is ‘most epic scene ever’.

The one I’m going to talk about is one that amazed me so much when I was younger. There are so many amazing video game scenes out there, though. I decided to pick one that I don’t see anyone really talk about when they are talking about epic scenes.

I would say one of the most epic scenes that I’ve ever seen was watching the characters in The Legend of Dragoon transform into their dragoon forms. The Legend of Dragoon is a 4 disc RPG for the Playstation developed and published by Sony Computer Entertainment released in JP in December 1999, NA June 2000, and EU January 2001.

After playing the SNES for so many years, watching these characters transform into a stronger and sometimes elegant forms was amazing to me. (Meru, is my favorite character and probably favorite dragoon form as well, but I love Rose’s transformation so much!)

Game With the Best Voice Acting

Hi, hi! Welcome to day 26 of the video game challenge! (Almost there!) Today’s challenge is ‘game with the best voice acting’. (I’ll be talking about English voice acting)

**This post may contain affiliate links. You can find the disclosure policy here.**

This is another one I thought about all day. I had a few in mind but then each of those had some characters that I thought had horrible voices (English versions). I finally settled on a game I’ve already talked about a time or two and that’s Persona 4 Golden.

The voice acting in this game just flowed so smoothly. Every character’s voice fit them perfectly. The voice actors really gave the characters an extra push when it comes to personality. (Sadly, I can’t find any videos that don’t spoil parts of the game ●| ̄|_ ) Typically, people will cringe at English voice acting in anime or games that are more of a Japanese style such as RPGs. I can understand that, I’ve heard my share of horrible voice acting (Little Busters dub was not my cup of tea).

Which game do you think had the best voice acting? Let me know here or on facebook!

A Game I Plan to Play

Hi, hi! Welcome to day 25 of the video game challenge! Today’s challenge is ‘a game I plan to play’.

I have been waiting since E3 last year to play this one and it’s already been released in Japan as Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna (いけにえと雪のセツナ) in February 2016 on the PS4 and PS Vita and will be released internationally July 19th 2016 as I Am Setsuna for the PS4 and PC via Steam.

I Am Setsuna is an RPG developed by Tokyo RPG Factory and published by Square Enix.

The reason I’m so excited for this game is that when it was announced it was described as a spiritual successor to Chrono Trigger. I understand that this does not mean sequel, however, they used the gameplay style from Chrono Trigger which is one thing I enjoyed about the game. Aside from that, it looks beautiful and the story seems like it will be interesting as well.

Frigid island that has been closed to the snow. In the land that is plagued by monster damage, has been transmitted is a custom to quell the demons devoted sacrifice since ancient times.

However, in recent years, demon of movement becomes active, people decide to make a sacrifice and without waiting for a year for the next ritual.

Name of …… chosen girl, Setsuna. She along with the escort team, journey to be subjected to the ritual “the farthest land of” -.

That sounds like an amazing story to me. It actually reminds me of Final Fantasy X to an extent. I’m really excited for it because it’s been awhile since I’ve played an RPG that really gripped me and pulled me in. There have been games I’ve played that I’ve enjoyed like Persona 4 and it was great for a modern game but I want that nostalgic feel that I Am Setsuna is going for.

The only thing I’m a bit upset about is that it is not getting a PS Vita release outside of Japan, which isn’t a huge deal because it will also be out on PS4 and Steam and I would have chosen the PS4 but it’s download only. There will be no physical discs with the international English release. My PS4 is full and I don’t want to buy hard drive after hard drive to be able to play games that are download only. However, I guess the benefit is that it’s much easier to take screenshots on a PC.

What games are you planning to play, or really looking forward to?

Favorite Classic Game

Hi, hi! Welcome to day 24 of the video game challenge! Today’s challenge is ‘favorite classic video game’.

If you’ve been following these posts, you might already know that my favorite classic game is Chrono Trigger.

Marle, Lucca, Crono, Frog, Magus, Ayla and Robo Source

This is the first RPG that I can remember playing. I fell in love with everything about it. The music, the story, and the characters. I’ve played it more times than I can count and I own it on multiple consoles as well. It’s a game I will never tire of.

Lucca, Marle, Crono Source

Chrono Trigger is a wonderful RPG about friendship, responsibility and time travel. Within the game there are many decisions made and even some sacrifices which makes the story even more enthralling. Even more so is being able to change the course of history in order to save the world. I won’t give too much away here since I’ve already written about it. But if you are ever looking for a great classic RPG to play, Chrono Trigger is the way to go!
