Welcome to Doki-Doki Otaku! Here you will find reviews of anime, graphic novels, books and video/mobile games from me as well as playthroughs for video games and possibly episode by episode updates of anime as I watch them!

I decided to start up this blog so that I could share my opinions on certain things with the world. I am by no means a professional writer or blogger. This is solely for fun.

First, though, a little about myself. I am a stay at home mother to one. (Anime mom, weird right?) I have been enjoying anime almost my entire life, starting with Sailor Moon (that original English dub that everyone thought was terrible!) and quickly branching out to things like the Tenchi series and Miyazaki’s movies. My favorite anime genres are harem and slice of life but that does not mean that I limit myself to only these genres. I can’t really say that I have one specific favorite anime but some of my favorites include: Clannad, Lucky Star, Toradora, and Death Note.

My video game playing days came shortly before my anime watching days, however, and I started off with Super Mario World on the SNES. I prefer JRPGs and RPGs but I play other games as well. My favorite games include Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VIII, Super Mario World and Harvest Moon 64. More recently though, I’ve been playing Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Destiny and Splatoon.

As for manga, I didn’t start reading manga until later on in high school, probably halfway through my junior year. The reason for this is that it was not readily available to me. However, I was lucky enough to have a few friends who let me borrow volumes of manga that they owned. Now I own several boxes full of manga myself.

I hope that you will enjoy my posts as much as I will enjoy creating them!
And remember, everyone has a little otaku in them!

Throwback Thursday-Sailor Moon

Hi, hi! Welcome to Throwback Thursday! I thought it would be a cool idea to make posts about older anime that some people may not know about! I decided to start today off with the first anime that I ever watched-Sailor Moon!

Sailor Moon also know as Bishōjo Senshi Sērā MūnPretty Soldier Sailor Moon and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon started as a manga series by Naoko Takeuchi and was originally published in Nakayoshi. It has since aired as a television series from 1992-1997 and has recently been rebooted as Sailor Moon Crystal, there are also 3 movies, Sailor V manga, musicals, video games, card games, figures, etc.

There were some issues with the western releases of the original series however, for instance, the love scenes between Haruka and Michiru were taken out and they were depicted as cousins rather than lovers and there was an entire season that was not allowed to air here in America.

Sailor Moon is about a group of girls, known as the Sailor Scouts or the Sailor Senshi, who team up to save the world from various evil doers. The Sailor Scouts consist of the ‘Inner Senshi’ and the ‘Outer Senshi’.

The Inner Senshi include:
Usagi (Serena) Tsukino- Sailor Moon
Minako (Mina) Aino- Sailor Venus
Ami (Amy) Mizuno- Sailor Mercury
Rei (Raye) Hino- Sailor Mars
Makoto (Lita) Kino- Sailor Jupiter
Chibiusa (Rini)- Sailor Chibi (Mini) Moon

The Outer Senshi include:
Meioh (Trista) Setsuna- Sailor Pluto
Haruka (Amara) Tenoh- Sailor Uranus
Michiru (Michelle) Kaioh- Sailor Neptune
Hotaru Tomoe- Sailor Saturn

The series revolves around the inner senshi and the outer senshi come in at various times to help out.

There is a lot to this series and I won’t go into all of the details in this particular post but if you enjoy magical girl anime, I highly recommend checking Sailor Moon out. Personally though, I prefer the original. I feel that the art style of Sailor Moon Crystal did not fit the personality of Usagi at all. I’ve only seen the first few episodes of Crystal so far because I’m having a hard time getting past that aspect.

Thanks for reading! Tell me what you think of Sailor Moon Crystal so far! ^_^ Let me know here or on facebook!

I had this made for me so many years ago and I can’t remember who made it but credit goes to whoever did!
